leadership Club
Leadership Club was developed at George Marks over 17 years ago by Mrs. Maddox in an effort to give more 5th graders an opportunity to demonstrate their leadership skills. Unlike Student Council, where 2 students are selected by their classmates to represent their class for the school year, Leadership Club changes each 9 week period and allows any interested 5th grader to apply. Ten to twelve students are chosen based on grades, attendance, and behavior from the previous 9 weeks. Grades of a C or better are required as are no more than 3 absences and tardies and no discipline or bus referrals. If a student does not meet the requirements for a 9 week period, their application is held and reviewed at the end of each 9 weeks for possible inclusion in future club sessions.
Activities of Leadership Club include: making posters, counting and delivering flyers to classrooms, choosing the theme for Red Ribbon Week, decorating the school for Red Ribbon Week, collecting food and toys during the holidays for families in need, acting as teacher assistants, media assistants, peer tutors, and campus greeters and classroom assistants during Kindergarten orientation.
Students may get an application for Leadership Club from Mrs. Maddox or their classroom teacher or may print the application below and return it to Mrs. Maddox.
