Third Grade
At the start of the school year, we learned about the role of the School Counselor, P.A.W.S., how to make introductions, how to give and receive compliments and how to make an apology.
During Red Ribbon Week we learned about over the counter (OTC) medicines and prescription medicines and the importance of using them correctly and with appropriate supervision. Students worked in table teams to complete a Venn diagram comparing OTC and prescription medicines. Emphasis was placed on making certain when taking any type of medicine, it is only given to us by an adult we know and trust.
Bullyproofing is a series of lessons that defines the difference in conflict and bullying. Students learn what a bystander is and how to show confidence when standing up for themselves or others. We learned strategies for avoiding getting "hooked" by a bully and methods for handling bullies.
As time for FSA draws closer we will focus on School Success Skills and test taking skills. We will end the year with the Child Safety Matters program which focuses on personal safety, cyberbullying, peer pressure, good and bad touch and child abuse and neglect. An opt-out form is available for parents who do not wish for their children to participate.
